Pulling A Hard U-Turn
Oct 24th
Wow, what a difference a couple of weeks can make.
Two weeks ago, this time, I was stressed out, as my internet was on the fritz, I had no job prospects, I was home, bored, and worried about the future, replete with another wee girl to compliment the Jones family. And let me tell you — the brave face I put on was thin and cracking, after so much time spent "on sabbatical", which really, as a euphemism, bites the big one. I thought my options might get to the point where warehouse work, which almost killed me 10 years ago, might be my only option remaining. And trust me, I am not built for manual labour. I'm not even really built for white collar work. The best I could hope for was long past being an option, and I had no urge to get back into Property Management, the field that had started out loving me, and then threw me out like a used Kleenex. Ew.
Cut to this week; I am now employed in the field of content acquisition and development in a burgeoning internet broadcasting field. My job description is pretty nebulous at this point, but it does involve finding musical content to play over a channel our subscribers get with their ADSL. So, basically, a conglomeration of all my favourite activities – television, computers, music and dramatic presentation, mixed in together! I couldn't have come up with a job more suited for me than this!
This has lowered my stress level considerably. Dealing with something not just creative, but something I get paid for, is such a relief! And hopefully, to my wife as well! The resultant tension drop should ease tensions across the board. I will say, the commute sucks several different kinds of balls, but that's the price you pay for working downtown.
Now, I'll let you know when the tension racks back up after the baby is born.
